This policy explains what Binge Brief™ collects when you interact with the site, why we collect it, and how to exercise your rights under GDPR and comparable regulations.

Binge Brief is an independent publication about the global streaming industry. This policy applies to binge-brief.com and any email sent from briefs@binge-brief.com.

1 · What we collect

When you generate a brief on the site

Nothing personally identifying is required. We don't use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, or fingerprinting. Vercel (our hosting provider) logs server-side request metadata (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for operational reasons; this is retained by Vercel under their privacy policy and isn't accessible to us in a way that links individual users to brief content.

When you subscribe to the weekly email

Email address — to deliver the weekly brief and manage your subscription.
Market selection — up to 3 markets you chose, used to decide which briefs to send.
Timestamps — when you signed up, confirmed, changed preferences, or unsubscribed.
IP address hash — a one-way cryptographic hash of the IP you signed up from, used to detect abuse (such as automated signup of other people's emails). The raw IP is not retained.
User agent — the browser string present at signup, used for abuse detection.

When you reply to a weekly brief

Replies route to briefs@binge-brief.com and land in a personal inbox checked by the Binge Brief operator. Reply content is treated as private correspondence — not stored in any database and not used for any purpose beyond replying to you.

2 · Why we collect it

Service delivery — your email and market selection are needed to send you the briefs you asked for.
Compliance — timestamps and confirmation records are retained to prove we followed double-opt-in rules, required under GDPR Article 7.
Abuse detection — the IP hash and user agent protect the service from automated signup of other people's emails or bulk spam.

We do not collect data to build advertising profiles, sell to third parties, or train machine-learning models.

3 · Who has access

You — via one-click unsubscribe and self-serve preferences links in every email.
The Binge Brief operator — the single person running the product.
Our processors:
- Upstash (Redis storage, EU region)
- Resend (email delivery, built on AWS SES)
- Vercel (web hosting)
- Cloudflare (DNS + inbound email routing)

We do not share your information with anyone else. No third-party analytics, no advertisers, no data brokers.

4 · Where data is stored

Subscriber records are stored in Upstash Redis, region EU-West-1 (Ireland). Email sending is handled by Resend in the same region. DNS and email routing are handled by Cloudflare, which operates globally.

5 · How long we keep data

Active subscribers: for as long as your subscription is active.
Unsubscribed records: retained for up to 12 months for GDPR audit (proof of consent and proof of unsubscribe), then permanently deleted. You can request immediate deletion.
Pending (never confirmed) records: automatically cleaned up 30 days after signup.
Server logs: Vercel retains server logs per their policy; we don't retain any logs ourselves.

6 · Your rights

Under GDPR and comparable laws, you have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data (use the preferences link in any email)
Unsubscribe at any time (one-click in every email)
Delete your record entirely (reply to any email asking for deletion)
Export your data in a portable format
Object to processing or withdraw consent
Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, reply to any email from briefs@binge-brief.com. We aim to respond within 14 days.

7 · Cookies

The site doesn't set tracking or analytics cookies. The only browser storage we use is transient (session-level) and exists purely to keep your in-progress brief generation from losing state on refresh.

8 · Email tracking

Our emails do not contain tracking pixels and we do not rewrite links to route through tracking redirectors. Our sending provider Resend is configured with open/click tracking disabled. This means we don't know if you opened a brief or clicked a link — which is a tradeoff we've chosen in favor of your privacy.

9 · Children

Binge Brief is a business-intelligence publication for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, reply to any email from briefs@binge-brief.com and we'll delete the record.

10 · Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if anything material changes. Significant changes will be communicated in a weekly brief at least 14 days before taking effect, so you can unsubscribe if you disagree.

This policy is written as plainly as possible. If anything is unclear, ask — we'll rewrite that section.
